Good Faith Estimate / No Surprises Act
Under the No Surprises Act, clients who are uninsured or self-pay have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining the expected cost of services.
A self-pay client includes someone who does not have insurance, as well as someone who has insurance but chooses not to use it for services.
A Good Faith Estimate provides an estimate of the expected cost of non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy. This estimate is based on the information known at the time it is created and may vary depending on your needs, frequency of sessions, and length of treatment.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate before beginning services and upon request. Receiving a Good Faith Estimate does not require you to schedule or continue services.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may have the right to dispute the bill through the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process.
